Community-Wide Arts Celebration with a Full Schedule of Events

Newburyport, MA – Newburyport’s robust art scene is being celebrated with a special Newburyport “Holiday” ArtWalk on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. featuring paintings, photography, sculptures and more from individual local artists and group exhibitions.

Participating galleries this year include: Alan Bull Studio, Blochaus, Celine McDonald Studio, The Coffee Factory, Chococoa Baking Company, Firehouse Center for the Arts, Greetings By Design, The Gallery on Federal, Jaxby Nimble Studio, Metzy’s Cantina, Newburyport Art, Newburyport Framers, New England Sketchbook, The PEG Center for Art & Activism, A Pleasant Shoppe, Studio 53, Threadneedle Gallery, and Valerie’s Gallery. Look for the ArtWalk signs in gallery and store windows.

Among the special activities planned for the Holiday ArtWalk 2023 are:

- Chococoa Baking will feature Fontaine Dubus from 10-11 am, who will be on hand to discuss her work and techniques, and answer any questions. 50 Water Street, inside Mill #1, The Tannery, open 10 am - 5 pm

- Threadneedle Gallery will have three events: At 11 am, Bethany Peck will be at the gallery with a painting demo. At noon, gallery owner Jill Harrison will give a talk on “Adding Art to your Home: Collecting with an Eye to Value and Design,” and at 2 pm, there will be a landscape painting demo by Jonathan MacAdam. 0 Threadneedle Alley (near Bar 25), open 10 am – 6 pm

- Studio 53 will feature a Printmaking project with Susan Jaworski-Stranc from 1-3:30 pm.
Families are welcome and supplies are provided. Studio 53 is the working studio of Susan Benveniste, Susan Jaworski- Stranc and Dido Thayer. 53 Middle Street, open 10 am - 5 pm

- New England Sketch Book will be hosting Brooke Lambert, who will be showing her unique printmaking process to create nature- and ocean-inspired collagraphs and give an artist talk and answer questions about her works from 5-7 pm. 1R Water Street, open 10 am - 7 pm

- Newburyport Framers - Two days: On Friday, Dec. 1, Newburyport Framers is hosting a “Silver and Gold” event. There will also be a special auction of a painting by Alan Bull along with proceeds from some readymade frames that will be donated to Our Neighbors Table. On Saturday, Dec. 2, Newburyport Framers will have pottery and art for sale for holiday gifts.

- llume Books will be giving a luminary peace ornament with gratitude for each purchase! Illume will also be launching Resident Artist Katie Swatland’s latest book, “The Eternal Student,” and a companion sketchbook will also be available for purchase. 10 Market Square, open 10 am - 6 pm

- Valerie’s Gallery will feature new small works by artists Connie Rossetti and Trina Teele, and will offer a chance to win a bundle of locally-made, handmade goods. 26 State Street, open 10 am - 6 pm

- The PEG Center for Art and Activism is featuring a new exhibition called “Heroes Among Us” with inspirational, museum-quality art as well as local heroes. 3 Harris Street, open 10 am - 4 pm

- Blochaus Art Gallery will host a group exhibit featuring the work of gallery owner and artist Markus Sebastiano with guest artists working in multi media. 74 Water Street, Suite 200,
open 10 am - 6 pm

- Newburyport Art has an ongoing show “Journeying Well: Artistic Pathways” on view in all of the galleries. Additionally, the Holiday Gift Shop will be open. It is holding a Holiday Raffle from December 1-15, when the raffle drawing will take place. 65 Water Street, open 11 am - 5 pm

- Jaxby Nimble Studio Stop by the studio for holiday cheer and seasonal items for sale… Marimekko stockings, ornaments, and gifts amongst the art of Heidi Newfell and Lisa Riordon. 163 High Street, open 10 am - 5 pm

- Greetings by Design offers personalized, custom stationery and invitation packages as well as art by Newburyport artists, including Angela Chiklas. 6 Market Square, open 10 am - 6 pm

- A Pleasant Shoppe This friendly art gallery has one of a kind, handmade pieces by 100 local artists in a variety of media. Browse paintings, photography, weaving, jewelry, handbags, pottery, furniture, and gift items. 57 Pleasant Street

- Alan Bull Studio Featuring landscape and nocturne paintings. 18 Graf Road, Unit 18

- Celine McDonald Studio Working studio of artist Celine McDonald, 10 Prince Place, #202

- The Firehouse Center for the Arts Featuring new art on an ever-changing basis. Market Square
