The building opened in the fall of 1971 as Antietam Junior High School. In the Fall of 1989 East Junior High closed and all district ninth graders were transferred to the High School. All seventh and eighth grade classes were consolidated at Antietam Junior High and the building was renamed Waynesboro Area Middle School.
