About

Volcano Garden Arts is a World Heritage Site located a mile from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and was once part of the 1908 Hopper Estate. The farmhouse-turned-gallery is constructed of California redwood originally brought to Volcano by ship, rail and horse-drawn wagon. The manicured grounds include cultivated gardens, an art studio, greenhouses, plus nature trails that give access to the large upland rainforest that surrounds it.

Our selection ranges from fresh, fun collectables to works of significant impact, from pocket-sized to larger-than-life. Enjoy the lovely cultivated gardens and greenhouses, plus access to nature trails into the surrounding Ola'a Nature Reserve.

The present owner (he calls himself caretaker), internationally known artist Ira Ono, envisions a space where artists, gardeners, and writers from all over the world can explore, create, retreat and be inspired by the powerful and healing beauty of Volcano Village. Ira brings his vision to Volcano Garden Arts and over 30 years of teaching, making art and gardening in the Hawaiian Islands.

The gallery is free and open to the public. We feature a poetic guest rental cottage, and coming soon, a natural foods cafe. Volcano Garden Arts ships worldwide.
