Timmons Elementary School

9595 East Washington Street
440-543-9380

Timmons Elementary School houses 750 students within a large, modern structure divided into smaller sections or "pods." The pods contain individual grade levels, giving a feeling of community to the multiple classes at each grade level.
Instructional Focus relies on a strong Language Arts and Mathematics curriculum, cross-disciplinary activities which integrate Science and Social Studies, and Writing across the curriculum. A sophisticated technology network enables students to access curriculum-related software specifically selected to support courses of study. Internet access paves the way for Timmons students to participate in the information highway. The inviting school library provides a source of literature and a place for study and research.
Fine Arts are a centerpiece of the educational program. Vocal and instrumental music classes culminate in several musical concerts throughout the year which showcase the skills and talents of the students. The visual arts extend beyond the Art classes and spill over into the hallways and lobby of the building. They are then displayed in the yearly District Art Show. Art activities reflect coordination and support of the academic program. PTO-sponsored Fine Arts assemblies are held for the students periodically throughout the year.
Physical Education skills developed throughout the year are also presented to parents as part of the annual fifth grade Physical Education Show. Cross-country skiing, field days, and Women and Girls in Sports Day are other highlights of the program.
Student Support is offered in a variety of ways. A Title I Reading Program, Academic Tutoring, Speech/Language Therapy, Special Education services, guidance programs such as Shining Stars and Banana Splits, and the Intervention Assistance Team are available. The "students helping students" concepts are exemplified through the Conflict Mediation Program.
Home-School Communication is accomplished through Timmons News; Home-School Connection, a monthly publication of parent suggestions; Friday take-home folders; Principal's Good News Calls; and a variety of classroom newsletters, flyers, notices, or notes home. PTO-sponsored parent programs and information meetings all contribute to this communication effort.
Parent Teacher Organization enhances and enriches all aspects of the school program. Volunteers contribute hundreds of hours to classroom activities, projects, student tutoring, or committee work. Hospitality for school events, beautification of grounds, fund raising activities, playground enhancements, are but a few of the PTO's wide range of activities. Annual favorites are Breakfast with Dad (and Mom!), the Halloween Carnival, the Book Fair, and the Family Picnic.
