Our Mission

The Lake County Emergency Management Agency assists and supports the County in reducing loss of life and property from all hazards.

Company Profile

We are the official coordinating agency of Lake County and the State and Federal Emergency Management Agencies (OEMA & FEMA) in times of county, state and national emergencies/disasters, be they man made, natural or nuclear. Operated since the 1950's as the Office of Civil Defense, we have undergone a re-organization and have assumed many more various responsibilities. With a population of over 240,000 residents, we are constantly reviewing, assessing, updating and testing the County's disaster preparedness plans, with our goal being the protection and safety of our citizens and visitors lives and property. Although we provide the basics for disaster response and recovery for the entire county, we strongly encourage and support the individual cities and municipalities and fire/police districts to develop their own Emergency Disaster Plans.

This partnership helps ensure that the specific needs and capabilities of each individual municipality are adequately planned for.

We have been located on Garfield Road in Kirtland, Ohio since 1985. Our building was built in 1985 as an under ground facility, to be used as a command center in times of emergency situations. We are activated upon notification and/or request from local government officials, county officials or when there is evidence that a pending emergency is imminent in Lake County.

We also depend greatly on our volunteer staff in providing the necessary knowledge in all areas of the county including Transportation, Emergency Medical Services, the Sheriff's Office duties, Engineers, the National Guard, Coast Guard, Police and Fire from all cities and municipalities, just to name a few.

The Lake County Emergency Management Agency is funded in part by it's citizens along with local, state and federal governments.
