About Us:

Temple Adath Sharon (TAS) is marked by its culture of collaboration, lay leadership and inclusivity.  We are committed to having meaningful, participatory prayer services which are open to all; nurturing lifelong learning for students of all ages and prior backgrounds; and engaging in social action and communal outreach.  These are some of the characteristics which have given TAS longevity as the oldest synagogue in Sharon, and which continue to lend it the unique flavor it has today.

Sharon boasts a large and diverse Jewish population with a variety of synagogues across the Jewish spectrum.  The relatively small size of TAS, coupled with our location in Sharon's thriving Jewish community,  has enabled us to develop a congregation that is both intimate and close-knit while also deeply connected to the community at large.  We are fortunate to be able to draw upon the resources that Sharon has to offer and proud to contribute to its dynamic nature in so many ways

History:

Temple Adath Sharon is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Sharon, MA.

Beginning as Congregation Adath Sharon (Temple Adath Sharon), the oldest Jewish synagogue in Sharon since the 1930's. The history began with the summer and vacationing Jewish families worshiping in private homes near Lake Massapoag. Through those years, the families began to make Sharon their permanent residence and built the synagogue, a colonial style building, on 18 Harding Street from land donate by Mr & Mrs I. M. Kaplan. August 2, 1942 was the formal dedication of the synagogue building, the first Jewish house of worship in Sharon, Ma. Services were conducted only during the summer months but, in 1958 the synagogue opened its doors year-round and to accommodate a Hebrew school, classrooms were added to the building in the 1960's.

In 1979, the synagogue affiliated with the Conservative movement, which recognizes the right and the responsibility of all Jewish adults to participate fully in all aspects of synagogue life.

A bit of trivia: one of the founding members of Congregation Adath Sharon, Samuel J. Bernstein, was the father of famed composer Leonard Bernstein.  The Bernsteins walked to the synagogue from their nearby home on Lake Avenue.
