About Us

The Stevenson-Carson School District is a K-12 district located in the Columbia River Gorge, a National Scenic Area. The Columbia River Gorge is a beautiful area with breath taking views of tree covered mountains and streams dropping to the massive Columbia River Gorge. While located in a rural area, serving the towns of Stevenson, North Bonneville, Carson and Home Valley, the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area is within 40 miles west of the District.

The District serves approximately 1100 students, K-12. Students attend either Carson or Stevenson Elementary (K-6) Wind River Middle School (7-8) or Stevenson High School (9-12). Building size and class size are small providing an exceptional opportunity for a personalized educational program for each student. October, 2002 enrollments are: Carson Elementary - 257, Stevenson Elementary - 216, Wind River Middle School - 172, Stevenson High School - 421. The facilities are kept in excellent condition and reflect the communities' commitment to provide quality. Construction on the newly remodeled elementary in Stevenson will be completed in December 2002.

The District's motto is "Children First." While not a unique motto, the commitment and sincerity of the staff is genuine. Stevenson-Carson School District's highest priorities are instructional with a clear focus to improve student reading performance. The commitment to consistent curriculum review and use of proven result-driven programs is a cornerstone of the commitment to place students first. The District has established a reputation regionally and statewide as "progressive" and "on the cutting edge."
