History

Startzville Elementary School (formerly known as Mountain Valley School) has a long and interesting history.  The school's original site was purchased from Carl and Matilda Marschall on March 2, 1874 for $5.00.  Students were taught lessons only in German.

The school was moved to a new building in 1883.  Students were taught in German and English.  This school housed students until 1957 when the school closed.

In 1975 Mountain Valley reopened and enrolled 196 elementary students and 147 middle school students.  Lessons were delivered in English.

In 1996, Mountain Valley School became Mountain Valley Elementary School and Mountain Valley Intermediate School.  The  new buildings included a cafeteria, which both schools shared, office buildings, classrooms, a large gymnasium and a library.  The intermediate campus was conveniently located right next to the elementary campus.

The campuses continued to grow and change with the elementary campus serving grades PK-4 and the intermediate campus serving grades 5 & 6. The campuses operated separately from 1996 until the fall of 2003.  The campuses were then combined under one principal and once again became Mountain Valley School. Startzville Elementary was a TEA Recognized campus for the 2006-2007 school year.

The 2007-2008 school year was an exciting one for our school, as we have moved to a brand new building in a new location. Startzville Elementary was a TEA Recognized campus for the 2007-2008 school year. .Startzville Elementary School had an enrollment of approximately 750 students.

We are a now a Pk-5 campus with about 650 students and we enjoyed our first year in our new building and looking forward to another great school year!
