Sinking Springs Intermediate School

2850 Susquehanna Trail
717-846-6789

The newest building to our district, Sinking Springs Elementary School, is located in the northwest section of Central York on Susquehanna Trail North. Sinking Springs provides instructional services to approximately 500 students in grades 3-5, with the capacity to house up to 750 students. The building was built on multi-levels, with ramps throughout so that no stairs are necessary to access any part of the building.

Sinking Springs includes 32 classrooms, 6 itinerant workrooms, a complete gymnasium, modern kitchen with “food court” style cafeteria and debit system, a state of the art media center and computer lab, music and art rooms, and a highly secure “card-reading” entry system which protects against any unauthorized personnel entering the building or individual classrooms. The outdoor landscaped areas of the site include two practice fields, a spacious playground with a full basketball court and a total of 7 separate basketball goals, and multi-featured playground equipment.

The Sinking Springs Elementary School Motto proclaims that all students display their Sinking Springs SPIRIT at all times. Each letter of the word S-P-I-R-I-T stands for an important concept that is used to guide students in their behavior and decision-making on a daily basis:

S = Self Control

P = Pride

I = Intelligence

R = Respect

I = Inspiration

T = Trust

Focusing on Sinking Springs SPIRIT helps to convey expectations regarding the type of conduct that leads itself to a safe and healthy environment for all individuals within our school.

Sinking Springs is staffed by a principal, an assistant principal, 26 teachers, 16 “specialists,” and over 25 support personnel. Guided Reading is used to differentiate the instruction at all grade levels. Diagnostic assessments are used in Reading, Writing, and Math to enable the teachers to meet the individual instructional needs of all students. Science, Social Studies, and Health Education are also a part of the daily instruction within each heterogeneously mixed classroom. Students also receive instruction from curriculum specialists in the areas of Physical Education, Music, Art, and Library throughout the course of the 6-day cycle.

In addition to the classroom education, Sinking Springs also offers additional programs to support and enhance the curriculum. A wide variety of Special Education services, an active Instructional Support team, guidance services, English as a Second Language, and a seminar program for gifted students are some of the additional services available to students as needed.

Sinking Springs Elementary boasts a very active and excellent PTO that provides a multitude of fun, educational activities for all students. Assemblies, field trips, family fun days, a school SPIRIT clothing sale, and holiday classroom surprises are just a few of the wonderful activities provided by our PTO. Sinking Springs also has an extensive intramural program, both during lunch time recess and after school, that is available to all students.
