The following goals for school operation are established by the Board of Education and are aligned with the Board's mission:

"Salem School District is dedicated to providing learning environments which challenges each student to reach his or her full potential through an excellent academic program in a nurturing,student-centered atmosphere. The family-school partnership, with the support of the community, will inspire our students to achieve excellence in all aspects of their educational experience and to become productive, responsible members of our community, our country, and our world."

The school district's efforts in raising student achievement are guided by these district-wide goals which support activities, programs and initiatives in three areas. These areas systematically support teaching and learning. It is believed that through collaborative efforts a better equaleducational opportunity will be provided for all learners.

1. Teaching and Learning: In order for our students to attain challenging levels of achievement, our goal is to use evidence and best practices to: 1) develop, revise, implement, and evaluate high quality curriculum assess the impact of curriculum and instruction on student learning; 2) assess the impact of curriculum and instruction on student learning; 3) coordinate and evaluate professional development and induction experiences; and 4) provide standards-based supervision and evaluation.

2. Collaboration and Communication: In order to foster a community of learners that encourages high levels of motivation, effort and mutual respect, the Salem School District will promote dialogue and collaboration with students, staff, families, and all members of the Salem community.

3. Facilities and Resources: In order to support educational excellence and maximize teaching and learning opportunities, our goals are to effectively use resources to provide functional, technology-rich, safe, orderly and well-maintained facilities.
