Rotary Club Of Livingston

Camp Cho-Yeh, 2200 S Washington Ave.

The Livingston Rotary Club was chartered by Rotary International on December 7, 1936 under the leadership of Dr. James H. Dameron, its first President, joining a fast growing international association of local clubs founded in 1905 by Paul Harris, a young Chicago lawyer.

The very first Rotary Club was established in Chicago and was comprised of only four members, Paul Harris, Silvester Schiele, a coal dealer, Gus Loehr, a mining engineer, and Hiram Shorey, a merchant tailor. Their plan was to limit membership to only one person in any particular occupation or profession and to rotate meeting between the homes or places of business of the members. They were soon called the "Rotary Club."

From this modest beginning the Rotary Club organization has grown throughout the world to include 28,000 local clubs with over 1,206,000 members in some 155 countries.

Through our many local community projects and our involvement in Rotary International's endeavors, the Livingston Rotary Club is "Building Communities and Bridging Continents."
