Rotary Club of Acton-Boxborough

The Holiday Inn Boxborough, 242 Adams Place

The most usual impression of Rotarians is hard work oriented people dedicated to helping others. While this is true, there is another key element, fellowship. It is the balance between the two that makes the experience of being a Rotarian such a worthwhile pursuit for so many.

The Acton-Boxborough Rotary Club meets for lunch each Wednesday at Scupper Jacks restaurant on Route 2A in Acton. The meetings begin at 12:15 and end promptly at 1:30. Many things occur during this 1.5 hour period, but certainly key is the opportunity be with and converse with an energetic group of friends with varied backgrounds and similar interest in community service.

A three course lunch, with choices, is served (cost $14), current projects (international, national and local) are reviewed, members hold conversations with visiting Rotarians from other Clubs plus happy fines, sad fines and authoritarian fines are levied and paid to general laughter and applause. There is a speaker chosen for each meeting who talks for 20 minutes on a topic tied to a Club project or a subject that will allow members to increase their knowledge on a topic of current importance. A donation to the local libraries is made each week in the name of the speaker.

Each meeting ends with the drawing of a raffle ticket for the current cash balance in the kitty. For a group with quite serious goals, this ends the weekly session that affords the time for some just plain fun.
