North American Moose Foundation

610 West Custer
208-588-2939

History

The North American Moose Foundation was born out of a great appreciation for moose.  The initial idea came from a meeting in Mackay, Idaho between the commissioner of Custer County, Idaho, the mayor of Mackay, and a P R specialist experienced in grassroots organization.  They were sipping coffee and swapping moose stories one morning in Amy Lou's Cafe, when they started asking each other if there was an international foundation that supported moose.

They researched the idea and saw a public need for such a foundation.

In seeking the advice of friends, professionals and trusted foundation leaders, they received an impressive outpouring of support and encouragement.  Many people volunteered to help shape the direction and leadership of this foundation.  The volunteer board of directors already numbers thirteen and has seventeen volunteer advisory committee members.

Finally, the founding members registered a non-profit corporation with the Idaho Secretary of State on April 18, 2001 and is now an IRS 501(c)3 non-profit foundation.
