Meriden Soup Kitchen

460 Broad Street

About Us:

The Meriden Soup Kitchen, founded in 1983 in Meriden CT, feeds the hungry. A complete nutritious meal is served 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Monday-Friday throughout the year, In 1983, a total of 7,030 meals were served, increasing to 38,729 meals during 2016.

Seven teams of volunteers prepare and serve the meals which generally consist of hot soup, a hot entrée (usually with a vegetable and a carbohydrate), freshly made salad, bread and butter, hot and cold beverages, and a variety of desserts. Clients are able to take home a variety of wrapped bakery items supplied by area stores, along with fresh vegetables and fruits when available.

The number of meals served daily averages between 140-170, sometimes reaching as many as 250. Anyone who enters the MSK is served a meal – sex, age, nationality or any other criteria are not factors. An accurate tabulation of meals served daily is maintained. During the weekend, meals are available from the nearby Salvation Army.
