Mercer County, formed in 1786, is rich in history. Harrodsburg is the seat of Mercer County and is located at the junction of US 127 & US 68. It was founded by James Harrod in 1774 as Harrod's Town (or Harrodstown). There are more than 50 historical sites located and enjoyed by visitors and locals in Harrodsburg and Mercer County. Mercer County is very beautiful and an attractive place to live and work.

Mercer County is a community planning for its future. We have established a vision and plan for the future that was developed in community workshops by citizens. This vision includes future plans for job growth, improvements in education and workplace skills, growth in tourism and historical attractions, planned growth that benefits all citizen needs and the necessary infrastructure to handle the growing needs of this community.
