Massillon Family YMCA

131 Tremont Avenue, SE
330-837-5116

The Massillon Family YMCA was founded in 1919 when the Chamber of Commerce appointed the first YMCA committee. Shortly thereafter, Western Stark County's first and only YMCA was born with the granting of the charter. By September of 1919, space was leased on the corner of Erie and Lincoln Way and in December, classes began.

In early 1923, a building fund campaign was organized to raise money necessary to build a new facility to house the YMCA. Quickly, $348,000 was raised and the construction was underway. In January of 1925, the new building was dedicated.

By 1954, the building was in need of repair so a capital campaign was launched to raise $320,000 for facility renovations. The remodeled YMCA was dedicated in 1956.

In 1975, another capital campaign was conducted and over $1,000,000 was raised for renovations and construction of a much needed natatorium.

In 1999 and 2000, the fitness center was expanded and the new Nautilus center was added. in 2002, Stark County's first youth fitness center was open and a climbing wall was added.

Today, the Massillon Family YMCA continues its commitment to excellence and is constantly upgrading and improving its facility.

In March of 2005, ground was broken on our second facility and one year later construction finished and the building opened for business. This core facility has a fitness center, group exercise room, an activity room, gymnasium, two locker rooms, child care facilities, and a conference room. We hope to start construction on a pool for this facility in the foreseeable future.
