La Vernia Church of Christ

131 Industrial Drive
830-779-2525

History:
On a hot Sunday morning in August 1986, four families (Johanson, Norman, Bone, and Trafton) were put in one another's' path at the Stockdale Church of Christ; and the idea for beginning a sister congregation in nearby La Vernia began to form. The four families agreed to meet on a Friday evening in September at the home of Lynn and Marilyn Norman to discuss the possibilities. A missionary friend, Johnnie Perkins, was in Texas visiting family and supporters and agreed to visit with the families as they contemplated the enormous undertaking into which they were about to plunge. On Sunday, October 2, 1988, fifty Christians met at the "Pizza Barn" at the corner of Loop 321 and FM 775 in La Vernia for the first meeting of the La Vernia Church of Christ. Four months later, on the first Sunday in February 1989, the congregation moved to their present location on Industrial Boulevard and have never looked back.
