Historic WACO Airfield

1865 South County Road 25A
937-335-9226

History:
With the help of many supporters Historic WACO Field opened our own field with a 2200 foot runway (1800 feet useable) south of Troy, Ohio. Since that time the field has seen a steady stream of activity from major construction projects to flying events.

An 1856 barn has been relocated to the premises and fully restored. Currently the barn is used to house tractors and other maintenance vehicles. The barn also houses the WACO gift shop during the annual WACO Celebration and Fly-in.

A hangar has been erected and is used to house three WACO aircraft including the Gooodrich Mackey WACO Taperwing. This facility is also the home for the restoration area. We have several projects that we are anxious to begin work on.

We welcome radio-controlled aircraft at our new field. To fly here you need to be a member of the WACO Historical Society and belong to the AMA. We have a separate runway in place specifically to accommodate RC aircraft. At this time we plan to offer model flight training to our members. We have a couple of flight instructors just waiting to get started. This should also support the Learning Center work with the youth.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9582 (Vandalia, OH) donated a Huey helicopter that represents the way troops were transported during the Vietnam War. The aircraft is on the road to restoration. We are getting help from the Vietnam Pilots group on the location of needed parts and their installation

There are lots of things needing to be done and the demand for additional volunteers is evident. The winter may not be conducive to outside work but much still needs to be accomplished. Volunteers to support our events would also be instrumental. Please contact the society if you would like to become part of the team.
