Hills Elementary School is located six miles south of Iowa City and east of U.S. Highway 218 in the town of Hills. The school serves Hills and all or parts of the following townships: Liberty, Sharon, Union, East Lucas and West Lucas. The school has an enrollment of approximately 230 in grades K-6. Hills students attend Northwest Junior High and West High.

The physical facilities, which are designed to accommodate 300 students, include a 1970 addition of eight classrooms and a large media center. The addition is carpeted and air conditioned. The original building houses four classrooms, an art room, the resource room, a gymnasium, and an office. These rooms were remodeled in 1990. All students have access to classroom computers as well as a modern computer lab. A black topped area behind the school and an additional five acres provide an extensive playground area.
