A Greer minister, the late Reverend Johnny Stack, and a committee of concerned citizens, with assistance from the Greenville County Council for Aging, founded Greer Community Ministries in 1972 to establish a Meals on Wheels program in Greer. The first meals were delivered to 25 seniors in 1973. The Senior Dining, Food Pantry and Clothing Closet programs were added between 1973-1984.

Greer Community Ministries (GCM) is a faith-based organization with the vision that "No elderly, homebound or disadvantaged person in the Greater Greer area will go hungry." We have four programs that are essential in helping those in need get the life sustaining things that they need. The Meals on Wheels are delivered each weekday by volunteers to the homebound elderly in the Greater Greer area. Senior Dining is a congregate dining program that offers seniors an opportunity to fellowship with their peers in a warm, loving setting each weekday. These seniors are transported to our center by volunteer van drivers and enjoy a daily program by a different individual, church group, or business. The Food Pantry and Clothing Closet offer emergency food and clothing assistance to individuals in need and clients are welcomed each weekday.

Our programs are vital because without intervention, citizens will continue to face malnutrition, declining health, and hospitalization. Some will be forced from their own homes into nursing care facilities. Many will be able to continue living at home if only they obtain life's most basic of human needs - food.
