Grace Baptist Church

History

Standing beside the ashes of what was the almost completed first building of Grace Baptist Church, several individuals from among the founding families of Grace Baptist Church prayed for God's guidance. Having been founded in 1964 and still meeting in a school, the accidental and destructive fire prompted the search for direction. God answered by assuring these families that He did want a church planted with the vision of reaching out to Kent State University and the greater Kent community. The building was rebuilt and then added to in 1977. In 2004 we celebrated 40 years of serving Christ in the city of Kent.

Vision

Lordship:

We see a church where the members truly make Christ their Lord, obeying his commands and routinely denying selfish desires. Identification with Christ and his message will be so complete that even the threat of death will not interfere with their commitment to Christ. Following Christ will be of such importance that the people will spend their lives in his service by serving others spiritually and materially. We see a church that encourages people to make this kind of commitment.

Scholarship:

We see a church that delights in the personal and corporate study of God’s Word, including secondary supportive materials, for the purpose of (1) achieving personal spiritual maturity; (2) accurately sharing the gospel with others; (3) effectively teaching and defending God’s truth; and (4) humbly receiving the promised approval of God. We see a church where people are prepared, through a teaching ministry, for effective spiritual living in a diverse, ever-changing post-modern culture.

Gospelship:

We see a church where each member trusts in the Gospel of Christ to be reconciled to God. Believing that this gospel is the most important message God has revealed, each member (1) guards the purity of the gospel; (2) labors and sacrifices in order to share the gospel; (3) studies in order to communicate the gospel clearly; and (4) develops strategies for creatively conveying the gospel message within his/her sphere of influence.
