Welcome to Franklin Children's School

Who Are We?

Franklin Children's School is a NAEYC Accredited Preschool. The staff of Franklin Children's School are professionals in the field of childhood education. They are fully trained in child development, continuously updating their training at conferences, workshops and at college level courses. Our goal is to foster proper guidance while encouraging your child's independence and creativity.

Most importantly, the staff of FCS cares about the way your child is developing and adjusting to life.

What is NAEYC Accreditation? (extracted from NAEYC Accreditation Card NAEYC#917)

Early childhood programs accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs - NAEYC's accreditation department - have voluntarily undergone a comprehensive process of internal self-study, invited external professional review to verify compliance with the Criteria for High-Quality Early Childhood Programs, and been found to be in substantial compliance with the Criteria. A copy of the Criteria can be obtained from NAEYC's Academy (1-800-424-2460 ext. 333).

A high-quality early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. In accredited programs, you will see:

-Frequent, positive, warm interactions among adults and children.
-Planned learning activities appropriate to children's age and development, such as block building, painting, reading stories, dress-up, and active outdoor play.
-Specially trained teachers.
-Enough adults to respond to individual children.
-Many varied age-appropriate materials.
-A healthy and safe environment for children.
-Nutritious meals and/or snacks.
-Regular communication with parents who are welcome visitors at all times.
-Effective administration.
-Ongoing, systematic evaluation.

Enrollment and Tuition

Open registration for enrollment takes place during the month of January preceding the start of the school year. Enrollment is open to alumni in December and then on a first come first serve basis. Tuition rates are kept as low as possible, and they are competitive with other area pre-schools. Please contact the school for current registration fees and tuition rates.

Our Philosophy

The pre-school years are an important time in your child's life. These are years when first friendships are made, language is mastered and independence grows. It is also the time when the most rapid and dramatic changes take place in intellectual, social, emotional and cognitive skills.

Franklin Children's School offers your child a nurturing environment where learning, playing and growing are encouraged. This may be your child's first "home away from home", and we strive to make it a happy and comfortable experience.

The materials and activities made available at FCS are prepared specifically for the children in the 3 to 6 year old group. Your child's development will be nurtured and encouraged by the staff, and their needs will be met in an individualized curriculum.

About Our School

FCS is a non-profit organization. Our practice is one of complete non-discrimination in regard to race, religion, color, gender, handicap, age, disability, or national origin. Every attempt is made to include a multi-cultural awareness in our curriculum. Founded in 1971, the school is located at 900 Chestnut Street in Franklin, Massachusetts. The school solely exists to meet the pre-school educational needs of Franklin area families.

Daily Activities

Franklin Children's School generally follows the local public school calendar. We have morning and afternoon programs for children 2.9 to 6 years old. The two day programs are for the younger children beginning with the 2.9 year olds. The three day and Pre-K programs are for the 4, 5 and 6 year olds. The teacher child ratio is approximately 1:5.

During the day your child will participate in the arts, block building, water and sand play, science, reading, language arts, math, dramatic play, and much, much more!

Daily activities include active and quiet times and outdoor play in enclosed, spacious playgrounds. FCS periodically hosts visitors from the local community such as fire, police and post office workers.

In summary, Franklin Children's School can offer your child an exciting and highly enriching experience. Relating to other children and adults will become easier and more enjoyable. Movement skills will improve, language and vocabulary will be expanded and, of course, thinking skills and general knowledge will increase.

Parental Involvement

At FCS we strongly encourage parental involvement in your child's educational experience. There are many areas in which we encourage you to become involved:

-Parent Advisory Committee (PAC):
A committee composed of parent representatives, the school's executive director, staff, and a member of the Board of Directors. This group meets regularly to discuss the needs of the children, the school, and the parents. A parent newsletter is published monthly.
-FCS periodically offers discussion groups with guest speakers on such topics as separation anxiety, behavior management and family issues.
-Referral services and informal counseling.
-Special social events for the whole family.
-Our Board of Directors is open by application to the parent community .
-Parents are always welcome to volunteer in their child's classroom.
