Francestown Elementary School embraces the philosophy of Responsive Classroom with a goal of creating a caring, learning community where children feel safe. This approach of integrating the teaching of academic and social skills fosters respect, trust and cooperation. This positive learning environment provides children with the opportunity to take responsibility of their learning and behavior.

Francestown Elementary School was awarded the Blue Ribbon Achievement Award for two years. This award is given by NHPIE for exemplary school volunteer programs. FES prides itself on the commitment of the parents and community members to aid in and enrich the education of the children in Francestown.

Francestown Elementary is continuing its commitment to improve the outdoor habitat of the school while providing students with enriching experiences. Project Home has been the focus in the past where students designed and built gardens and outdoor areas to attract wildlife and to provide areas of relaxation, reflection and study for students.

A few years ago FES received a grant from the NH State Conservation Number Plate Program for a Playground Erosion Control and Wetland Protection Project. Along with protecting existing habitat, this grant provided students with the opportunity to be outdoors and connect with nature, create living classrooms for observation and hands on work and teach and demonstrate the principles of stewardship and ecology.

FES teachers received the Teachers of the Year award from the Harris Center for Conservation Education for their commitment to teaching about nature and the environment through their outdoor classrooms and gardens.
