First United Methodist Church Of Ansonia

47 Franklin Street
203-734-0374

Mission:
We are children of God who follow Christ. We celebrate our Wesleyan heritage through worship, music, and the Sacraments. Our Church family blends a history of generations of faithfulness, and continues today through the enthusiasm of children and a close fellowship of working together. Our hope is to be supportive of others through local and global missions. In openness and love, we seek to share the Word and expand the fellowship of Christ. We look forward to continued opportunities to care for and nurture God's children through faith in Christ.

History:

In January 1851, the Ansonia Methodist Society was organized with 61 members. The first church building was on Main and Bridge Streets and was occupied until 1865. As the membership increased, a larger building was needed. A new church on Main Street, opposite Maple Street, was dedicated in 1866 with 114 members.

In 1943, the church burned to the ground and the congregation joined with the Swedish M.E. Church. The next year, the Holbrook and Franklin Street property was purchased and our present church was dedicated on November 4, 1951.
