About Us:

We invite you to "Plant Your Feet On Higher Ground" as we worship and serve the Lord at First Baptist Church in High Island, TX. First Baptist Church loves the Lord and each other. It has been a part of High Island Texas for as long as anyone can remember. It was originally part of the community church which offered a Baptist service one week followed by a Methodist service the next. Around 1946, both congregations were able to acquire separate Church buildings. A strong relationship continues to this day with all of the churches in High Island and Bolivar Peninsula as we work to reach the lost for Christ and strengthen our schools and communities. Our beliefs are based on God's Word and outlined in the Baptist Faith and Message. We are part of the Southern Baptist Convention, Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, and Trinity River Baptist Association. We are blessed to have multiple ordained men in our congregation including a pastor emeritus who is also an evangelist doing ongoing missions work in Nicaragua. Our mission is the Great Commission. Our ministry activities not only include our cooperative program gifts through tithes and offerings, but start locally with adults and youth taking meals to local shut-ins, feeding a half dozen preschool kids, over 20 grade school kids and often up to 28 youth on Wednesday nights so we can share the gospel as they all have a lot of fun together. We work within our association to help smaller congregations with tasks that are much greater than any one of our congregations could do on our own. We have a blended style of worship with a praise team and 3 guitarist, a mandolin, and a pianist. We love to sing a variety of music from Great Hymns of Faith, Bluegrass Gospel, Contemporary Christian and Praise Songs. Some of our best worship is in our Monday night prayer meetings at Miss Opal Brown's home. As a church, we believe that prayer is one of the most important parts of our worship.
