About Us:
Shortly after the end of the Civil War, New England underwent a rapid growth in population. The major cities attracted both immigrants and people from rural areas with the promises of high income, good housing, and the opportunity for wealth. The outer fringes of these growing cities were being populated for the first time.

It was clear that these new Christian citizens needed places to worship near the places they were settling. The zealous missionaries from South Congregational Church established a number of Sunday schools to meet this need. These emerging congregations met in kitchens and barns, parlors and schoolhouses, anywhere that provided space for a gathering of worshippers. The spirit of Faith Congregational Church was born in 1894, as one of these grassroots Sunday schools and a church building followed shortly thereafter in the Forest Park neighborhood. The faithful of the Hill section of the city were served by Hope Congregational Church. Both Hope and Faith Churches had faithfully served their respective congregations and the surrounding communities for eight decades when, due to the changing times, cultures and needs of the community, they decided to merge into one-Faith United Church in 1977.

Today, through Faith United Church, the population of Forest Park and the greater Springfield area are still served and the missionary zeal of the founders is still alive, reaching out to people around the world.
