Explorastory of Hendersonville

139 Rock Castle Lane
615-824-2861

Organized as a storytelling group in June 2003 when a request was placed in the newspaper 'Upcoming Events' page inviting people who were interested in storytelling to attend a meeting at the Rock Castle Visitors Center. Roughly 10 people attended the first meeting.

We called ourselves Explor-A-Story because the focus was to give individuals the opportunity to explore some of their own stories and to learn how to best tell them. A secondary goal of the group was to promote the art of storytelling in Hendersonville and Sumner County.

Over the past eight years Explorastory has presented stories at the following events:

· Nashville Folklife Festival at Rock Castle

· Storytelling workshop at Hendersonville Public Library

· Star Party with Hendersonville Astronomy club - star viewing and star stories

· Summer Music and Storytelling by the Lake.

· Storytelling to cancer patients and their families at Hope Lodge in Nashville

· Halloween stories at Rock Castle

· Barnes and Noble Children's storytelling

· Barnes and Noble Adult storytelling

· Storytelling Boat Cruise on the Cumberland River in Ashland City

· Turn Off TV week' at Hendersonville and Portland Libraries

· 'The Front Cover Event'

  • Flood of Stories and Appalachian Christmas

Explorastory is a NONPROFIT organization that meets the first Wednesday of each month in the Rock Castle Visitor's Center from 6:45-8:30 pm.

The membership ranges from 10-20 people per meeting. Over the past 5 years membership has included business owners, teachers, librarians, scientists, professors, musicians, writers, and others.

Members volunteer monthly to share a story or story idea with the group and to talk about how they want to use their story. Members share ideas and give feedback to the member sharing to help them organize the story, learn how to present the story, and hone their storytelling skills.

The monthly meetings are always open to the public and Explorastory welcomes people who only want to listen to the members as they work through various story ideas. While members are encouraged to share a story at some point, no one is ever required to do so.

Membership Dues are $12.00
