About Us:

The Elyria City School District, located 20 miles west of Cleveland, Ohio, serves approximately 7,500 students, Kindergarten through Grade 12, in an exceptionally caring learning community of more than 50,000 residents. The Elyria City School District prides itself on its competent staff; rigorous and diverse courses of study; commitment to student achievement; strong parent and community support and genuine interest in the individual child. The dedicated and professional staff includes 627 certificated employees and 372 support personnel.

Elyria City School District offers an array of programs and services for students, pre-school through grade 12. The district is home to one 1,900-student high school, three junior high schools, 11 elementary buildings, an early childhood center, a full-day kindergarten program (with satellite locations), and an alternative school. Recently, the citizens of Elyria voted to approve a bond issue to rebuild the city's 113-year old flagship school, Elyria High School. The new high school campus will be located between 5th and 7th Streets and Middle and West Avenues. The new high school will be built in phases over approximately four years, and is expected to be complete in the year 2011.

The new Elyria High School will provide Elyria's children with a top-notch learning environment, sporting the latest technology, security features and quality classrooms and extracurricular facilities. The Elyria School District offers many specialized programs and honors courses. Elyria High school students may participate in the Ohio Post Secondary Enrollment option to earn college credit at Ohio colleges and universities. The District also participates in the Early College Program, a partnership with the Lorain County Community College offering first-generation college students a chance to earn an Associates Degree and high school diploma simultaneously while still in high school.

Graduating seniors from The Elyria School District receive millions of dollars each year in college scholarships. Elyria High School enjoys a graduation rate of more than 90%, up from 63% just ten years ago. Elyria City School District teachers are highly qualified, and regularly participate in professional-development opportunities throughout the school year.
