Some of the duties of the department head are to oversee the maintenance, improvement and construction of roadways, upkeep of five city cemeteries, implementation of sidewalk improvement program, tree removal and trimming, and maintenance of Public Works equipment.
The Public Works Department repairs, maintains, paves, ditches, and grades all city roads. They also take care of leaf removal and snow and ice removal. Various other duties are: maintain city cemeteries, replace and install culvert pipes, maintain and replace street signs, maintain ditches, repair and install storm sewer lines, maintain all storm sewer manholes and catch basins, street painting, traffic light maintenance, street sweeping, install and repair guardrails, trimming and picking up tree limbs, stump removal, and mowing of all public right-of-ways and vacant lots.
