About our District:

Coeur d'Alene Public Schools is an education leader, promoting opportunities for innovation in learning and inspiring excellence in everyone. Our mission statement: we invest in each student to prepare, challenge and advance well-educated, resilient and future-ready citizens.

Currently, we serve nearly 11,000 students in Coeur d’Alene, Dalton Gardens, Hayden, Hayden Lake, and a portion of rural Kootenai County. Our district includes 16 schools: 10 elementary schools, three middle schools, two traditional high schools, and an alternative high school.  We also offer opportunities for students at a joint professional-technical high school campus (KTEC) shared by neighboring Lakeland and Post Falls school districts.

We provide educational choices with three magnet programs:  Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities and Ramsey Magnet School of Science (both elementary), and Lakes Magnet Middle School with an emphasis on Science, Arts and Health.  While similar courses and programs are available district-wide, the magnet schools attract students by offering unique opportunities for in-depth experiences and study in specific areas of interest.  Other elementary schools of choice include Hayden Meadows, adopting an emphasis on technology, and Fernan STEM Academy, offering a science, technology, engineering, and math focus. The district also offers Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities for qualifying high school students, as well as dual enrollment programs with institutions such as the University of Idaho and North Idaho College.

We have a district-wide graduation rate of 88.4% for 2015-2016 — an improvement of 3.5% from 2014-2015. We pride ourselves on being Idaho’s highest performing large school district in many measures of student achievement. While all the latest data is not yet available, the 2014-2015 statistics shows our students outscore other large districts in Idaho on additional measures of achievement and excellence and our overall graduation rate has increased by 10% in the last ten years. The percentage of our high school students who continue on to college (or professional-technical certification) exceeds both state and national averages, with better second-year retention, and our students have higher numbers of advanced credits entering college than other Idaho school districts.

As the county’s second largest employer, Coeur d’Alene Public Schools has more than 1,300 employees. The District has shown strong financial stewardship of taxpayer dollars and holds the lowest overall tax rate of Idaho’s 20 largest school districts.
