City Of Wyoming

800 Oak Avenue
513-821-7600

History:

On April 4, 1861, Colonel Robert Reily held a meeting in his home for the purpose of naming the Village. The name "Wyoming" was selected because the Village reminded early settlers of a beautiful spot in Pennsylvania that was called Wyoming. In 1874, Wyoming officially became a Village with 600 residents.

Many of the current City street names were named after early residents and their estates, including Reily Road, Pendery Avenue, and Wilmuth Avenue. The nearby Miami & Erie Canal and the railroads spurred the growth of the City. The canal opened the doors for growth and industry; it was a valuable means of transportation and a power supply for local industry. Rail transportation began in 1851, linking Wyoming with downtown Cincinnati. Leading business people chose Wyoming as their home, giving Wyoming a suburban atmosphere. Because of its central location, Wyoming remains a popular location for business leaders and professionals.

The village grew in popularity and population and achieved city status in 1949. A City Manager form of government was established. Seven elected Council members oversee City operations.
