440-204-2050

The Mayor's Office mission is to enhance the quality of life for Lorain's citizens by providing a clear vision, strong leadership, and quality services. We are committed to move Lorain forward by creating an environment that will foster economic growth, increase population, preserve and improve City assets and stress effective and efficient operations. Pride, respect for all individuals, high ethical standards, teamwork, and the achievement of excellence are essential qualities that are continually stressed and strived for in the City.

About Us:

Lorain operates as a statutory City under the laws and regulations set forth under the Ohio Constitution, which is in contrast to the specialized charter forms of government. The form of government prescribed in Lorain is Mayor-Council.

Legislative authority is vested in an 11 member Council with 3 at large and 8 wards, all for two-year terms. The Council fixes the compensation of City officials and employees, and enacts ordinances and resolutions, including but not limited to, services, tax levies, appropriating, borrowing money, licensing, regulating businesses, trades and other municipal purposes. The presiding officer is the President of Council, who is elected by the voters for a two-year term.
