City of Kingston

900 Waterford Place
865-376-6584

History:

Nestled along the shores of beautiful Watts Bar Lake, Kingston overflows with nature's beauty. Once a major steam boat hub on the Tennessee River, Kingston's waterfront is now mainly used for recreational enjoyment. Whether boating, fishing or just relaxing along the shore, residents and visitors alike agree that Kingston is brimming with natural beauty. Kingston was founded in 1799 and is the second oldest city in Tennessee. It was the state capital for one day on September 21, 1807, and remains the county seat for Roane County. Located in the center of Kingston is one of only seven antebellum courthouses remaining in Tennessee.

The city is rich in history and its river heritage is evident by the graves of several riverboat captains buried in the Old Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery.
