The "Multiple Intelligence" theory suggests that there are multiple ways to be intelligent or to possess intelligence. It was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. Dr. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for the broad range of human potential in children and adults. Using this theory as a basis for curriculum planning allows each child to be successful.

The preschool uses the Harcourt curriculum, a well-tested method of literacy development that teaches spoken language, reading, and comprehension through multi-sensory interaction with letters, sounds, and stories. Phonics and decoding skills are taught in an environment that encourages repeated exposure through listening, letter manipulation, games, and creative activities.

The staff at Carlisle Early Literacy Preschool is experienced, well-educated, and knowledgeable in the field of child development and early childhood education. The Teacher/Director is an accomplished administrator and has worked with children for over 25 years.

CELP is licensed by the Massachusetts Early Education and Care Department and operates under the auspices of the Carlisle Kids' House. Our facility provides a homey atmosphere with opportunities for a wide variety of developmentally stimulating activities both indoors and out. Sharing our home with Extended Day also offers the unique opportunity to develop our 6th grade population as volunteers in the preschool.
