Canal Corners And Swan Farm

11721 Tinkers Creek Road
216-624-3919

Swan farm, owned and operated by Dave Wingenfeld and his family, has been providing Cuyahoga County with fresh organic vegetables since its establishment in 1975. In 2009, Canal Corners was created with the signing of a long term lease from the National Park. Located just a quarter mile apart from each other, Swan Farm and Canal Corners will be teaming up to provide CSA members with weekly fresh produce. As this is our first year as a CSA, we will start out small and simple to assure ample amounts of quality vegetables. Our season will be 18 weeks, running June through October.

As the season progresses you can expect to have a nice amount of various vegetables including french filet beans, eggplant, winter & summer squash, potatoes, spinach, watermelon, tomatoes, okra, charentais melon, garlic, onions, jalapeno/sweet banana/bell peppers, broccoli, soy butterbean, zucchini, cucumber, Chinese cabbage, basil, brussels sprouts, beets, swiss chard, lettuce mix, carrots, kohlrabi, turnips, leeks, and mustard greens. In October you will also have the option of receiving fall items such as pumpkins, gourds, and ornamental corn.

We encourage and will give first choice to those shareholders who will work alongside us for 4 hours per season.

Since Swan Farm was established in 1975, we have always focused on selling fresh produce directly to the consumers. Operating on only 14 acres, we decided it was time to expand our production by leasing 26 more acres from the Cuyahoga Valley National park. 2009 was the beginning of Canal Corners as a Countryside Conservancy farm. This confirmed our commitment to the Cuyahoga Valley and the "local food" movement.

Our goal is to extend the growing season as long as possible with asparagus, harvested in May and Christmas tress in December. We also have two high tunnels in which we grow tomatoes, peppers, and beets. In the fields we grow various types of vegetables ranging from french filet beans to watermelon. We aim to educate all age groups with family activities in the fall, including school tours.
