Atlanta Ballroom Dance Club

2620 Buford Highway

About Us:

The Atlanta Ballroom Dance Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting ballroom dancing in the Atlanta area.

We hold weekly lessons for beginners at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Buford Highway. Each month we feature a different dance. The lessons are taught by local area instructors.

We have a public dance on the third Saturday of each month at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Buford Highway. Our dances feature a variety of ballroom dance songs selected by our DJ Cindy Johnson. There are several mixers throughout the night. Most months we have a dance exhibition by a local dance studio or company. There is also a drawing for door prizes. Attendance at our monthly dances is usually between 100 and 150 dancers.

History and Purpose:

In 1981 there were few opportunities in Atlanta for the general public to enjoy ballroom dancing. To address this need, a small group of amateur dancing students formed the Atlanta Ballroom Dance Club and began to organize public dance parties. Since many of the other dances held in the city were restricted to "singles only" or "members only", ABDC's founders emphasized openness. The club was reorganized and incorporated as a domestic nonprofit corporation in 1988.

The club promotes the enjoyment of dancing, the development of dancing skills, and open participation in dancing by all persons without regard to age, sex, marital status, race, religion, ethnic background, membership in this club or membership in any other organization. In the following years the program gradually grew and became a factor in the general revival of ballroom dancing in Metropolitan Atlanta and nearby communities.
