the Appalachian Gateway Center opened in September, 1999 this facility is located at Southern State Community College's South Campus in Fincastle, Ohio. The Center houses a gift shop, art gallery, meeting hall, and art studio. The lobby offers display space for Appalachian culture and arts. The meeting hall seats approximately 200 people. The Center is used for meetings, exhibits, presentations, events, and productions. The Appalachian Gateway Center is a place to meet those who are interested in the arts, history, environment, and celebration of the Appalachian region culture.
The mission of the Gateway to Appalachia Resource Center is to provide information on the culture, literature, art, history and natural resources of the Appalachian region.

The Gateway to Appalachia Resource Center was started in 1999 under the direction of Mary Ayres, LRC Manager at the South Campus of Southern State Community College and Louis Mays, Librarian of Southern State with the help of Joy Padgett from the Governor's Office of Appalachia and under the advisement of Arts and Cultural Consultant Michael London, the Management Team, and the Governing Council of the Appalachian Gateway Center.
