R.D. Mahan Kiln Opening & Turkey Roast

This year's turkey will be a "Turkey Jerky" that can be eaten after browsing a selection of our latest pots. R.D. was my father, the late Ronald Dewitt Mahan. This is our kiln opening in honor of the man whose courage, determination and energy inspired me to create whatever I desire. It's a yearly event at the studio to celebrate pottery and family, together with friends from more than thirty five years of making pottery in Seagrove. I will have new work available fresh from the kilns. There will be wood-fired pots and electric-fired pots: tree pots, platters, soul pots, bells, and more, some made from local clay. Refreshments to go. Admission: FREE

Jugtown Pottery

American craft has been an integral part of Jugtown Pottery’s history since it’s founding in 1917. Juliana Busbee tracked down makers of handcrafted items that complemented the pottery Jacque Busbee was working with the Jugtown potters to produce. Continuing the Busbee vision, Jugtown currently represents more than 70 American artists and crafts-people. The crafts chosen as an offering alongside the pots made at Jugtown offer a diverse experience for the shopper. Even more than that, they help support the livelihood and nourish wonder of each of the artisan’s creativity. Shoppers at Jugtown can expect to find kitchen utensils, beeswax candles, tea towels, wooden toys, garden art, greeting cards, and many more unusual finds. We’re proud of the crafts we carry at Jugtown, all of which are handcrafted around the US. As always, all pottery sold at Jugtown continues to be made on site, by current potters Vernon, Pam, Travis, and Bayle Owens.
