Join us for Lead Like A Pro: Effective Leadership Styles For Athletic Coaches (and anyone who coaches), hosted by author Dr. Matthew Raidbard.

With each passing year, athletic coaches are asked to take on increased leadership responsibilities for their athletes and team. However, they don’t always have the opportunity to receive the necessary coach-related leadership education and training that would provide them with the knowledge and tools required to effectively coach the team, manage the athletes and parents, and deal with any unexpected conflicts or tensions that arise during the season. This talk is designed specifically for athletic coaches to provide them with foundational leadership knowledge and teach them techniques they can use to practice the best leadership style and behaviors that align with their personal values and beliefs.

Dr. Matthew Raidbard has spent the past 15 years as a men's college basketball coach and senior-level college athletics administrator. While pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, he conducted research on athletic coach leadership practice that led him to determine that coaches were not being provided the tools and resources required to take on the outsized leadership role they were asked to take on for their athletes and team. This discovery was the inspiration for his new book, Lead Like A Pro: Effective Leadership Styles For Athletic Coaches, where he provides coaches, at all levels of sports, with tools to enhance their leadership practice and become more effective leaders.

Community Room

The Scituate Town Library and Scituate Together for Representation, Inclusion, Diversity & Equity (STRIDE), invite you to a LIT Conversation, featuring Jamele Adams as facilitator. LIT means Love, Inclusion, and Trust. This is the first in a series of conversations that will take place between October and April on a variety of topics.  Our first conversation will explore the pandemic and its effects on our sense of community: what lessons have we learned? What's the path forward? Is the pandemic truly over? This community conversation will be held in person on October 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Scituate Town Library's Community Room.

For optional reading in advance of the conversation we suggest a short story by Tommy Orange called "The Team." You can access this short story, printed in the New York Times, from home with your library card. Instructions for reading the Times from home can be found here.  Visit the LIT Conversation page here for the link to the short story.

Award-winning photojournalist Martin Nangle will describe his experiences working in Belfast and Boston during the 1970s and 80s Irish Troubles, and subsequently as an international Associated Press correspondent. Using personal history and archive images, Nangle argues that his career encompasses the end of media-based photojournalism, which has been replaced by Citizens' Journalism. Nangle's Belfast and Boston Images, which are held in the collection of the Ulster Museum Belfast, have recently been published as a two book Volume 1 [of four]: A Belfast Story 1973-1989 and September '89.
