MassGOP Slams Governor Healey's Tax Policy: Calls Out Hypocrisy in Recent Claims

Boston - Governor Healey recently emphasized that she has no intention of introducing new taxes or increasing existing ones. However, it’s important to note that she has sponsored a bill enabling municipalities to implement a new real estate transfer fee. Additionally, she has introduced the Municipal Empowerment Act, which grants municipalities the authority to raise taxes and add an extra 5% to vehicle excise taxes.

MassGOP Chair, Amy Carnevale, commented on the Governor’s claims stating, “The only impressive aspect of the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s tenure has been their ability to spin a narrative. They’re championing tax increases on the municipal level. Whether tax increases are on the state level or the municipal level, Massachusetts residents will pay more, and it is the Healey-Driscoll Administration that is advocating for it.”

“Massachusetts residents are struggling with affordability. The last thing residents need are increased taxes and penalties for investing in their home for decades. The Governor has no right to tell residents that she’s not raising taxes,” Carnevale concluded.
