Open Studios

Mark your calendars for this season’s Open Studios at MASS MoCA and get to know the current artists-in-residence! The event will take place from 5 to 7pm in Building 13 and Building 34, complete with drinks, snacks, and great conversation. Free and open to all.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Join us for an afternoon of joyful celebration and remembrance of friends, pets, and family members past. Enjoy hot chocolate from Casita while you dance to the music of Yo Soy Arte. Visit the Research & Development Store and meet Sara Bader, the author of The Book of Pet Love & Loss, and artist-in-residence Alison Pebworth, who will create spirit drawings of attendees. Contribute to our ofrenda with photos of and tokens for your loved ones who are no longer with us, or make something new! Materials provided.

Live Music + Silent Film

Troker + El automóvil gris

Saturday, November 11, 8pm

Silent film and eclectic rock come together for this not-to-be-missed event. Mexican jazz and psychedelic music group Troker composed the new score to essential Mexican silent film El automóvil gris, whose story revolves around one of the most famous historical criminal gangs in the country. With their live accompaniment, Troker helps the public understand the intertwined elements between detectives and thieves, who act as protagonists and antagonists at the same time. 

The on-stage experience consists of the projection of the film in black and white, with live musicalization by the band and unmissable set design.

Stephen Vitiello

All Those Vanished Engines

A relic of the museum's industrial past, the boiler house was once used to heat the factory campus that MASS MoCA now inhabits. Artist Stephen Vitiello's All Those Vanished Engines fills the space with an ever-changing soundscape that washes over visitors, through October 30.

Michael Oatman

all utopias fell

A 1970s-era satellite has seemingly just crash-landed on MASS MoCA's campus. Through October 30, intrepid visitors can climb a staircase through the boiler house and enter artist Michael Oatman's all utopias fell, a re-purposed Airstream trailer filled with a laboratory and library made up of novelty objects from decades ago.
