Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Join us for an afternoon of joyful celebration and remembrance of friends, pets, and family members past. Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is the Mexican holiday of remembrance for those who have passed away. Enjoy hot chocolate from Casita while you dance to the music of Yo Soy Arte. Visit the R&D Store and meet Sara Bader, the author of The Book of Pet Love & Loss and Alison Pebworth, artist-in-residence, who will create spirit drawings of attendees. Contribute to our ofrenda with photos of and tokens for your loved ones who are no longer with us, or make something new! Materials provided.

Like Magic Opening Weekend

How to survive and thrive in a chaotic world? Like Magic brings together artists who employ technologies of magic to resist systems that attempt to surveil and control people’s lives and stories, often because of their race, ability, sexuality, gender identity, indigeneity, or immigration status. Simone Bailey, Raven Chacon, Grace Clark, Johanna Hedva, Gelare Khoshgozaran, Cate O’Connell-Richards, Rose Salane, Petra Szilagyi, Tourmaline, and Nate Young use healing earth, witches’ brooms, AI, divination, and more to imagine care-full and joy-full futures into being despite the peril promised by the past and present.

Public Tours Are Back In Session

Museum educator-guided public tours are one-hour highlight tours of the museum that focus on 3–5 exhibitions. All of MASS MoCA’s tours are conversation- and inquiry-based, encouraging participation while also providing important content and context about the art on display. Free with gallery admission; no RSVP required.

Look Up with Lorelei Ensemble

In the capstone to their upcoming residency at MASS MoCA, the all-professional vocal ensemble of nine women performs LOOK UP, a program featuring the world premiere of new works by Christopher Cerrone and Elijah Daniel Smith, alongside music of Meredith Monk, Molly Herron, and Elena Ruehr, under the direction of founder and artistic director Beth Willer.

Step Show: The Musical

Maxine Lyle’s new work is a two-act theatrical production, currently in progress, that showcases African American step dance and its role in Black college life. Infusing body percussion with hip-hop, R&B, and soul, this intergenerational coming-of-age story takes a riveting ride through the world of step dance and its imprint on Black culture.
