Government and Politics

April 27, 2023

WASHINGTON – Mayor Bowser has announced the retirement of Robert J. Contee III, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC. The DC Republican Party issued the following statement:

Patrick Mara, Chairman of the DC GOP, noted, “Mayor Bowser has announced the retirement of Chief Contee. It is imperative that Mayor Bowser begin a national search tomorrow. DC is experiencing a crime crisis. We need a proven, crime-fighting chief to lead the MPD.”

Mara continued, “Chief Contee stood for law and order. He held his ground with the extreme far-left District Council. He understood the impact of the soft on crime laws on the District. We are saddened to see Chief Contee step down, but we wish him the best in his next life phase. He is a man of great character and honor.”
