Ocala Recreation and Parks Announces New Department Mascot
Rex the Squirrel will debut for National Parks and Recreation Month in July

This July, join the Ocala Recreation and Parks Department in celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month.  During this month-long celebration highlighting the impact of parks and recreation within the community, the Ocala Recreation and Parks Department will launch their new mascot, Rex the Squirrel. Rex was created for the City of Ocala and will make his official debut on Friday, July 1 via the Ocala Recreation and Parks Facebook page.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rex to the Ocala Rec and Parks team,” said Preston Pooser, Ocala Recreation and Parks Director.  “Rex will be a great ambassador to our department while providing an opportunity to interact with children, tweens, and adults about fun activities and wildlife education within our city parks.”

Join us for Rex’s Birthday Bash on Wednesday, July 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tuscawilla Park, 800 NE Sanchez Ave.  This family-friendly event will feature outdoor activities, face painting, free cupcakes, and ice cream provided by the Ocala Police Department Polar Patrol.  Rex will make appearances throughout the day including photo opportunities.

National Parks and Recreation Month is an opportunity to showcase our park staff, the city’s park systems, and the variety of activities and programs provided to our community. Throughout the month, we encourage residents and visitors to share stories and pictures of how recreation and parks have impacted their lives with the hashtag #OcalaRecPark.
