October Mystery Book Challenge

Children can stop by the Children's Desk during October and ask to pick a secretly wrapped book out of the Mystery Book Challenge Box to read at home.  Each book will have a book review form inside, once they are finished reading, they will fill out the book review and return it to the Children's Department, by October 31, for a special prize.  

The book they choose is theirs to keep and they can do the challenge more than once.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

All ages are invitied to get creative and enter a decorated pumpkin.  Pumpkins will be displayed in the Library's lobby from October 18 - 24, and the public will be invited to cast their vote for their favorite entry.

October 14 - 17: pumpkin entry drop-off
October 18 - 24: voting
October 25: winners announced
Entires must be picked up by October 31

No carved pumpkins please.

Halloween Costume Family Storytime
Thursday, October 26

Throw on your Halloween costume and join us for a spooktacular time the whole family will enjoy!  We will read books, play games, create an art project, and make a snack.

Trick-or-Treating at the Library

Kids of all ages can wear their costume to the Library and visit each of the service desk for treats!

Adaptive Storytime

All ages & abilities

Join us for stories, songs, and play, in a supportive environment designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime experience. Storytime content generally falls within a preschool interest level, although children of all ages and abilities, including siblings, are welcome to attend.

Our storytimes are inclusive and welcoming to all abilities.  Families are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets their child's needs.

Fall School-age School Programs

Art Explorers
Saturday, October 21

We'll explore a variety of art mediums through hands-on projects.

During the October session, we will look at Vincent Van Gogh's The Starry Night, and create our own masterpieces with acrylic paints.

We'll explore how book illustrators create their art work through hands on projects.

During the October session, we will explore collages created by author & illustorator Susan L. Roth, then create our own collages with paper and found objects.

Homeschool Bookclub

Tuesdays, September 5 - December 5

Children ages 8 - 12 years old

We will read together during our weekly meetings, as well as discuss what we read, and do some fun activities. Children don't need to read the entire book ahead of time, but there may be some independent reading between meetings.

Copies of the first book, Polo Cowboy by Greg Neri, are available at the Children's Desk.

Kitchen Confidence Lab

Paws to Read

Children are invited to practice their reading skills with friendly puppy pals!  Join us one Saturday a month in the Children’s Department for Paws to Read!

Trained therapy dogs make an ideal audience for beginning, struggling and reluctant readers. The dogs are non-judgmental listeners, which allows kids to practice in a no pressure situation, that can also help to build a positive attitude toward reading.

Additional Resources

Resource databases, such as biography reference banks, encyclopedias, and a number of other tools covering a variety of topics, are available through the Barberton Public Library to help students complete homework assignments.
