Announcing BrainStorm The Film And My New TEDx Talk

Arts and Entertainment

January 20, 2023

Hi Everybody, Happy 2023!

I have super cool news to share. Today we are launching BrainStorm the Film Award-winning documentary filmmaker Bonnie Waltch – whose most recent film aired nationally on PBS -- and Emmy Award winning senior producer Melanie Wallace are underway creating a film inspired by my memoir! I get to be a part of this team – along with world-class bipolar doctors like Dr Holly Swartz and Dr Jim Phelps, as well as brilliant people living with bipolar like Dr Devika Bhushan and Major General Gregg Martin. It is thrilling.

BrainStorm the Film will transform the landscape around bipolar as we know it. Our goal is to end the stigma, save lives, and maximize health for the millions of people with brains on the bipolar spectrum – and all those who love them. This film is unprecedented (we’ve been watching a lot of biopics on bipolar) in that it combines inspiring stories of people with lived experience of bipolar, cutting-edge science, and breakthrough treatments all in one coherent narrative. We’re also learning of the dramatic prevalence of bipolar which is vastly under-reported due to stigma and misdiagnosis.  The film will give viewers new knowledge, empathy, and power to build awareness and create change.

How cool is this?!

Please check out BrainStorm the Film to learn more, including bios of the amazing team that is creating it. As this is an independent film, we are looking for supporters. Through some amazingly generous donations, we’ve raised $535,000 of our $2 million goal in less than six months! All contributions go through our fiscal sponsor, Filmmakers Collaborative, and are fully tax deductible.

Excited to learn more?! We invite you to join us in a conversation with the team. Details below.

Wishing you a wonderful, healthy, happy 2023!
