2023 Juneteenth Celebration

Arts and Entertainment

April 20, 2023

Come and Celebrate JUNETEENTH!

What is JUNETEENTH?

JUNETEENTH is a holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

RECESS Education, Inc and the 13th Avenue Dream Center welcomes everyone to the 3rd Annual Juneteenth Community Festival.  The festival celebrates the spirit of cultural diversity while supporting small and minority owned businesses.

If you have a business or nonprofit organization, we invite you to participate in this great community event.  Sponsorships are also available.  Email [email protected] for sponsorship information.

If you would like to be a vendor, please complete the vendor registration form: https://forms.gle/Butf6rgJQxE7KRdQ6

We also celebrate Juneteenth with literacy at our 7th Annual Juneteenth Reading Conference.

Finally, we will have our 3rd Annual Sweet Potato Pie Contest. If you feel you have an award winning recipe, sign up at: https://forms.gle/Butf6rgJQxE7KRdQ6

Other Juneteenth happenings are our poetry contest for youth grades k-12 and our book discussion, On Juneteenth by Annette Gordon-Reid.

Come on out and celebrate JUNETEENTH!
